Introduction to Gilmore
In 2009-10 James Gilmore School is expecting an enrollment of over 435 students from Kindergarten to Grade 7. We are proud to offer concentrated instruction in both of Canada's official languages, English and French (Early French Immersion program).
Although children are grouped by the number of years spent at school, we recognize that children learn at different rates and in different ways. We strive to modify learning programs in order to suit the needs of individual students. The Ministry of Education sets forth learning objectives for students in BC; your child's teacher would be happy to discuss them with you.
As well as teachers, a range of education professionals delivers or enhances a variety of programs at Gilmore. The services of resource librarians, learning assistance teachers, resource teachers, an English as a Second Language teacher, a music teacher, a computer specialist and classroom assistants are all available to serve the academic, social and emotional needs of students. In addition, district resource personnel such as a school counsellor, school psychologist and a speech and language pathologist can assist parents, teachers and students with specialized program planning.
Gilmore's students are also invited to participate in extra-curricular activities such as teams sports and various clubs.
Gilmore opened in 1959.
