CARING FOR EACH OTHER, LEARNING FOR A LIFETIME. PRENDRE SOIN DE L'AUTRE - L'APPRENTISSAGE POUR LA VIE

Welcome Back!

Dear families,

We hope you had a wonderful and restful summer to reconnect with families, friends, and loved ones. As summer approaches an end and we prepare for another exciting school year there are a number of important updates to our routines and health and safety procedures. As a community, Gilmore families, students, and staff have done a wonderful job of coming together to support a safe and supportive school environment where children can thrive. Last year held many obstacles, most of which we were able to overcome together. This year we had hoped to be in a different stage as a province and yet, we must also do everything we can to move forward together. A smooth return to school is important for everyone and we are doing our very best to ensure a calm, safe and welcoming environment for all.

Schedule for Sep 7-10

First day, Sep 7th schedule: ALL students in Gr. 1- 7 come to school for 1 hour from 9:30 – 10:30. This is to allow our staff to receive up-to-date health and safety training prior to student arrival as well as other important start up details and updates. Please read the attached document to see where your child will be picked up and dropped off by school staff.

On Sep 7th, Kindergarten students will come to school from 9:30 – 10:15. Please refer to the Gradual Entry email for drop off and pick up locations.

*** If you are new to the school, please bring your child to the parking lot at the front of the school to meet Mrs. Tolman, she will be welcoming all new students to Gilmore on that first day.

Sep 8-9: Grade 1-7 students come to school from 8:45 – 2:45. Kindergarten students follow their gradual entry scheduled sent to those families. Students will return to the same pick up and drop off location as Sep 7th. Students new to the school will have updated drop off and pick up information given to them.

Sep 10: With permission from the District, students will move to their classrooms for the year with a regular 8:45 – 2:45 schedule, except for Kindergarten students who will still be engaged in gradual entry. An email will be sent after school on Sep 9th regarding students’ classes for the year.

Health and Safety Routines:

Please see the attached District Communication. Some additional information is listed below.

Daily Health Declaration: All students and staff will continue to complete the daily health declaration. Do not come to school if you are sick or have symptoms. Please print attached Daily Health Declaration for easy reference.

Hand Hygiene: Students will participate in frequent hand washing and hand sanitizing while at school. This will include upon arrival at school, before and after eating, playing, being outdoors, after using the toilet, and before leaving at the end of the day.

Mask usage: All staff will be wearing masks. Students in grades 4-7 are required to wear masks unless they are unable to do so and for students in grades K-3 mask usage is encouraged.

Lunch: Students will be supervised by their teacher during eating times. No lunch drop offs are permitted at this time.

Pick up and Drop off: Each classroom will have an outdoor location for pick up and drop off for students. At this time, parents are not able to be in the school. This is to minimize congestion inside the school.

Outdoor Breaks: Students will have two 30 minute outdoor breaks per day, rain or shine. Each class has a designated entrance/exit door so as to minimize hallway congestion and ensure maximum spacing. Please dress for the weather

Parking

Please do not park in the parking lot off of Elsmore Rd. There are many different groups that have programs and offices in the school and the parking lot becomes extremely congested if used for pick up and drop off. Use the Kelmore Rd. parking lot or find neighbourhood parking. Where possible, please walk or cycle to school.

Federal Statuary Holiday on September 30th: National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

The government recently passed legislation to make September 30th a federal statutory holiday called the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. As such, all schools in the Richmond School District will be closed on Thursday, September 30, 2021.

This day provides an opportunity for all Canadians to recognize and commemorate the legacy of residential schools. This may present itself as a day of quiet reflection or participation in a community event.  Gilmore staff and students will be engaged in a variety of activities leading up to September 30th to ensure that students understand the significance of this day in our community and in our nation. More information will be shared as we approach this Day of Recognition.

On the horizon:

In the first week of school there will be much more information coming home as well as requests for any changes of address, new medical information for your child, how to use our cash on line system, and upcoming important dates and events.

Please don’t hesitate to contact the office at 604 668-6268 if you have any questions. We are open 8-4 Monday – Friday (closed, Monday September 6th).

We look forward to welcoming students and families back to Gilmore on Tuesday!
